Master of Arts By Research

Master of Arts By Research is a Masters program taught at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia. Intake: any time throughout the year. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Universiti Sains Malaysia Master of Arts offers research programmes in Accounting, Finance, and Management. Students complete independent research under supervision from one or two supervisors in the School of Management. Topics include areas such as Goods and Services Tax and Taxation Issues, Auditing, Financial Reporting, Asset Pricing, Corporate Finance, and Organisational Behaviour.

The programme is offered as full-time and part-time, with registration possible at any time throughout the year. Full-time candidates complete a dissertation in a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters. Part-time candidates complete dissertations in a minimum of 4 semesters and a maximum of 12 semesters. Students participate in the School’s Postgraduate Colloquium, submit and present a proposal, and produce a thesis that should not exceed 50,000 words.

After graduation, students may seek employment in both public and private sectors.

The minimum requirements for admission in Master of Arts By Research at Universiti Sains Malaysia for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• program specific academic requirment set by Universiti Sains Malaysia.
• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Universiti Sains Malaysia as pre-requiste for admission in Master of Arts By Research.

An applicant for a Master degree should possess the following qualifications:

• I. Bachelor degree (Honours)
  A) CGPA of at least 2.75/4.00
  B) CGPA of 2.50 - 2.74/4.00 with
  Research experience – 1 year; OR,
  Professional experience in related field- 1 year; OR,
  One(1) academic publications (journals, not proceeding(s) in related field; OR,
  Grade B for major/ elective courses; OR,
  Grade B+ for final year project;
  C) CGPA of 2.00 - 2.49/4.00 with
  Research experience - 5 years; OR
  Professional experience in related field - 5 years,
  AND
  One (1) academic publications (journal, not proceeding(s) in related field; OR,
  Grade B for major/elective courses; OR,
  Grade B+ for final year project.

• II. APEL A Certificate (APEL T-7)

• A minimum score of 35 in Internet-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); OR
• A minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System); or
• A minimum score of 154 in Cambridge English Advance (CAE); or
• A minimum score of 154 in Cambridge Proficiency Advance (CPE); or
• A minimum score of 36 in Pearson Test of English (PTE); or
• English is the candidate's mother tongue or National Language; or
• The candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction at Bachelor and Master level is English; or
• English courses offered by British Council (The level of qualification and the relevant courses are to be identified by the University Postgraduate Studies Council); or
• English courses from selected Malaysian public/private University or institution (The level of qualification and the relevant courses are to be identified by the University Postgraduate Studies Council).
