Master of Science Ds

Master of Science Ds is a Masters program taught at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (Between one year to a maximum of four (4) years (full-time),) options.

The Master in Data Science is a coursework programme offered at the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. It trains candidates to apply data science techniques and to understand underlying principles and methods, with the goal of developing innovative solutions to emerging challenges in data science.

Study is full-time at the UTM Main Campus in Johor Bahru. The programme includes modules such as Statistic for Data Science, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Big Data Management, Research Design and Analysis in Data Science, and Supply Chain Analytic, plus elective options. Research and project work includes Master Project I, Master Project II, and Dissertation III.

The minimum requirements for admission in Master of Science Ds at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• program specific academic requirment set by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as pre-requiste for admission in Master of Science Ds.

Applicants must meet general university requirements and the English language requirements.

• General university requirements: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Holders: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent, or Bachelor’s Degree in STEM or a related field recognised by the University Senate. Academic achievement: CGPA ≥ 3.00: Direct admission. CGPA 2.75 – 2.99: Subject to internal evaluation. CGPA < 2.75: Must have at least 5 years of relevant working experience.
  • Diploma Holders: Diploma in STEM or related fields from a recognised university. At least 5 years of relevant working experience. Pass APEL T-7 (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning).
• Specific requirements: For applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent: Must have a credit in Mathematics / Statistics at degree level, or Credit in Mathematics, or Pass with credit in Additional Mathematics at SPM (or equivalent high school level), and Fulfil additional prerequisites set by the university.

Persons with Disabilities (PWD) requirements: Only applicants with physical disabilities or paralysis as outlined by the Malaysian Public Service Commission (SPA) are accepted, provided they are able to use their hands for writing and typing.

• MUET: Minimum Band 4.0.
• IELTS / IELTS Online: Minimum Band 6.0.
• TOEFL iBT / TOEFL Online: Minimum score of 60.
• Cambridge English Qualifications (B2 First, C1 Advanced, C2 Proficiency, Linguaskill): Minimum score of 169.
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Minimum score of 59.
• Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP): Level 109 or higher.

Exemptions: International applicants from countries where English is the official language, or International applicants who have completed academic qualifications from institutions that use English as the sole medium of instruction.

Applicants who do not meet the requirements may enrol in the Intensive English Programme (IEP) at UTM Language Academy or the Certified Intensive English Programme (CIEP) at any ELS Language Centre in Malaysia (up to one year from the date of registration). Upon completion, applicants must sit for one of the English proficiency tests listed above and achieve the required minimum score before being admitted to the main academic programme.
