Introduction

Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is a Semester One; 28 February Bachelor program taught at University of Auckland, New Zealand. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (Full-time: 4 years; Part-time: Varies) options.

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (LLB(Hons)) at the University of Auckland gives high-achieving LLB students the opportunity to go deeper into an area of law and strengthen research and dissertation writing skills. The programme is updated under new regulations and includes selection at the end of LLB Part III. Students who have completed the LLB degree cannot be admitted into LLB(Hons). Eligible high-achieving students are invited to transfer from the LLB to complete Part IV.

The LLB(Hons) changes from a 540-point programme to a 480-point programme and can be completed in four years, the same duration as the single LLB. Students can continue in the LLB or apply for LLB(Hons) for the final 120 points. Most students need to take one General Education course, and Honours can start only in Semester One.

Career outcomes linked to the programme include private practice roles such as barrister and solicitor, public service roles such as prosecution and defence, and work in mediation, the judiciary, and law reform. Private companies roles include in-house legal counsel and compliance. Graduates may also work in government policy, resource management, parliamentary drafting, and academia.
