Introduction
Bachelor of Science in Microbiology is a Bachelor program taught at University of Santo Tomas, Philippines. Intake: August to November of each year. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
Bachelor of Science in Microbiology is a four-year program offered by the College of Science – Department of Biological Sciences. Students study microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, algae, protozoan, and fungi, and their activities.
The program emphasizes the sciences of biology, chemistry, genetics, and mathematics, which are essential to the study of microbiology. It supports graduate-level study and preparation for employment in microbiological and allied fields, such as food and beverage industries, health sciences, and environmental sciences, or for medical school.
Microorganisms are studied through an inquiry-based and discovery learning process. The program develops outcomes that include applying safe and responsible techniques and procedures to identify and solve problems related to the life sciences. It also includes using mathematical and statistical computations and appropriate technologies to analyze and interpret microbiological data. Laboratory instruction is described as central to the sciences, and the university uses a learning management system called the UST Cloud Campus for instruction delivery.
