Japan IAP – Inujima House for All (Architecture and Sustainable Design) is a trip to Japan that visits Tokyo, Kobe, and Inujima. The primary focus is to give SUTD students experience of Japan by touring significant and modern buildings, architectural offices, and museums about design and culture. The trip is organised to learn first-hand about Japanese architectural and design thinking.
Students primarily collaborate with Kazuyo Sejima. In Tokyo, they visit the office to see the work and understand the plans for Inujima, including the concept of a “House for All” designed to support interactions between different people and to host temporary visitors. In Inujima, students join the Sejima office staff for a three-day workshop, including surveying abandoned houses to be renovated and using a laser scanner to capture data for the upcoming Inujima studio in the spring term.
