Master of Science in Data Science

Master of Science in Data Science is a Masters program taught at Open University of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka. Intake: Fall and spring semesters. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (Minimum 2 Years) options.

The Master of Science in Data Science at the Open University of Sri Lanka is designed to provide knowledge, real-world experience, and practical training for work in data science and machine learning. It covers big data technology, machine learning, and data analytics, with topics that include statistical analysis, programming, and data management. Advanced topics include deep learning, artificial intelligence, and data ethics.

The curriculum combines mandatory coursework with real-world experience. Core courses include Data Science Concepts and Machine Learning, Advanced Data Management, Big Data and Data Mining, Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic, Statistics and Mathematical Modeling, Python for Machine Learning, Professional Practice, Project Management, Research Methodology, Entrepreneurship, Topics in Emerging Technologies, and AI Techniques and Applications. Study is offered in blended learning and distance learning (part-time), with a minimum duration of 2 years and a project-focused structure.

This program is for students who meet the admission requirements and can pass a selection interview conducted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Graduates can pursue roles such as Data Scientist, Machine Learning Engineer, Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Data Engineer, and Research Scientist.

The minimum requirements for admission in Master of Science in Data Science at Open University of Sri Lanka for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• program specific academic requirment set by Open University of Sri Lanka.
• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Open University of Sri Lanka as pre-requiste for admission in Master of Science in Data Science.

• A) A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, OR Technology in a Computing field obtained from a recognized university OR
• B) A Bachelor’s degree in any subject area other than mentioned in (a) above, with at least 35% of the total credits of the program being in computing or IT-related subjects, obtained from a recognized university, and a minimum of one-year appropriate experience in a field of computing after graduation OR
• C) Membership of a recognized professional institute relevant to the field of Computing, obtained through an academic route (SLQF 6), and a minimum of one year of appropriate experience after the membership is obtained OR
• D) Any other qualifications and experiences acceptable to the Senate.
• AND D) Pass a selection interview conducted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
