Bachelor of Arts Honours in English and English Language Teaching

Bachelor of Arts Honours in English and English Language Teaching is a Bachelor program taught at Open University of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (Minimum 04 Years) options.

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English and English Language Teaching is an undergraduate programme designed to prepare professionals for English Language Teaching (ELT), education, and related fields. It builds academic grounding in Applied Linguistics, English Language Teaching, Literature, and key areas of Education, combining theoretical insight with practical teaching practice.

The programme is a four-year Special Degree with literature and ELT-focused study across modules such as Discourse Analysis and ELT, Theory and Practice of Language Testing, TESL Methodology, and Computers and ELT (Adjunct Course), plus a Research Project. Students attend both online and onsite academic activities. It is offered at all regional centers.

The minimum requirements for admission in Bachelor of Arts Honours in English and English Language Teaching at Open University of Sri Lanka for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• program specific academic requirment set by Open University of Sri Lanka.
• English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Open University of Sri Lanka as pre-requiste for admission in Bachelor of Arts Honours in English and English Language Teaching.

• Possess the OUSL Diploma in English Language & Literature (application required), or
• Possess a Diploma in Teaching English (ESL) of 2 years’ duration from a National College of Education (NCOE),or
• Possess any other recognized 2-year Teacher Training Qualification in Teaching English as a Second Language, acceptable to the OUSL Senate, or
• Possess passes in three (03) subjects (including English Literature) at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination or an equivalent qualification.
• All the applicants, except those who qualify under category (1) above, are required to pass a selection test conducted by the Department of Language Studies.
