Introduction

The Ph. D. Programme in Law (DLS) at the University of St. Gallen gives students the opportunity to carry out a scientific research project leading to a doctoral thesis on a legal topic. It includes a coursework stage and a research stage, with additional educational and mentoring elements such as research workshops and discussions with supervisors.

The coursework stage includes Ph. D. seminars, a research proposal, and a colloquium. The research stage focuses on preparing the doctoral thesis and the thesis defence. For students interested in academic issues, an additional “Research Programme” is available, which requires successful participation in a Ph. D. colloquium, collaboration on a research project, and demonstration of teaching experience.
