PhD Fellow Ayoola Brimmo is a PhD program taught at New York University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Global PhD Fellow in Mechanical Engineering, Ayoola T. Brimmo, works as part of a team using 3D printing to create cost-effective microfluidic probes at the Advanced Microfluidics and Microdevices Laboratory at NYU Abu Dhabi. The probes are used by scientists and researchers to study cells and tissues in a controlled environment. The work focuses on overcoming limits in conventional fabrication processes for creating complicated probe structures.
With a prototype already developed, Brimmo’s final paper aims to show applications involving injecting proteins into neurons and extracting genes from cancer cells using electrical stimuli. Research support includes a mentor, Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering Mohammad Qasaimeh, who encourages both communication of research and maintaining time for life outside research. Campus resources also include opportunities to travel for conferences and grants, plus opportunities to learn Arabic and play sports such as tennis and football.
Brimmo also works on a side project related to waste management. He is working with business partners and startAD, a global accelerator based in Abu Dhabi, on an incentivized system to encourage the collection of waste in the UAE with the goal of improving conditions back home in Nigeria.
