Introduction

Doctor of Policing and Criminal Justice Doc is a PhD program taught at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. Intake: September. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (5 years) options.

Liverpool John Moores University’s Doctor of Policing and Criminal Justice (Doc) is a professional doctorate designed for criminal justice professionals. Students develop a research question and research plan through Research Planning and Research Methodology, then complete an Investigative Research Project supported by thesis structure guidance and preparation for a viva. The programme ends with Critical Reflection on Research through a reflective journal.

The doctorate follows LJMU’s Professional Doctorate Framework across three stages. Modules 1 and 2 include two intensive 5-day teaching blocks per module, with face-to-face lectures and seminars on the LJMU campus (supported by online learning and regular supervision) and asynchronous online materials throughout the year. Later stages focus on independent research and critical reflection, with regular supervision and access to Canvas (VLE).

Students build research practice through formal and informal opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and events exploring debates and challenges in policing and criminal justice. A dynamic Community of Practice brings together doctoral students alongside colleagues from related programmes across the School of Law and Justice Studies and the wider interdisciplinary environment at LJMU.
