PhD International Development
Introduction
PhD International Development is a PhD program taught at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3 years full-time or 6 years part-time) options.
The PhD International Development at SOAS is an on-campus doctoral programme in International Development Studies. As a PhD researcher, you join SOAS’s research community and take part in a substantial series of seminars presented by development professionals and practitioners. The PhD pathway in International Development can be based at SOAS, LSHTM, or IoE, and all students attend an advanced research training seminar run by LIDC. Students also complete compulsory course work and attend research student seminars.
The programme includes training and experience in fieldwork, plus training across different schools of thought and a variety of statistical techniques. SOAS uses individual Research Student Committees and also monitors research supervision through at least two members of staff.
Teaching and learning are supported through seminar participation and research clusters, with part-time students following the same programme as full-time students except that the initial training runs over two years instead of one. Supervision continues with committee involvement through upgrade to PhD.
