Film Production MA
Introduction
Film Production MA is a Masters program taught at Southampton Solent University, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 year full-time; 2 years part-time) options.
The MA Film Production at Southampton Solent University focuses on independent filmmaking and current practices in the film industry. Students study fiction and non-fiction film making techniques and build a personal style through modules such as Visual Storytelling, Professional Practice, Proof of Concept, and Film Master’s Project: Proposal and Development. The master’s project requires students to formulate and produce a distinctive film using a systematic, in-depth understanding of the skills and debates in the discipline.
Teaching includes theory and practice, with up-to-the-minute teaching and instruction. Students experiment with creative ideas from the outset and work towards the final master’s project. Facilities support production work through in-house production agencies (Solent Productions and Solent TV), professional-grade film-making equipment (including cinema cameras and lenses, lighting and audio, and a colour grading suite), and industry standard post-production facilities. Guest speakers from industry are also part of the learning experience.
