Introduction

Psychology Counselling and Mental Health BSc is a Bachelor program taught at Southampton Solent University, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3 years) options.

Southampton Solent University’s Psychology with Counselling and Mental Health BSc (Hons) is a BPS accredited degree that combines psychology with counselling and mental health. You study scientific methods used to assess, understand and address psychological issues such as depression, psychosis and post-traumatic stress disorder. You also study counselling and psychotherapy theories, and the role of empathy, compassion and mindfulness.

The course is delivered across three years, with core modules in year one, year two and the final year. You build practical counselling skills through modules such as The Helper’s Toolkit and Helping in Action, and you can gain L2 and L3 Counselling Skills certificates embedded within the course. You also have opportunities to present at and attend psychology conferences, and charities and private companies provide live briefs and mentoring for specific units.

This course suits people who want to pursue a career in clinical or counselling psychology, mental health support, or psychological wellbeing. The course focuses on employability and includes an opportunity for a work placement in your final year. It can lead to further specialist training in clinical or counselling psychology, mental health support, social work or psychological wellbeing, and it may lead directly onto postgraduate training for registered or chartered status as a psychologist.
