Yacht and Powercraft Design BEng is a Bachelor program taught at Southampton Solent University, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3 years) options.

Southampton Solent University’s Yacht and Powercraft Design BEng (Hons) focuses on designing and producing yachts and powercraft for vessels up to 24 metres. You study naval architecture topics such as stability, mechanics and materials, and marine systems through modules including Naval Architecture Design, Applied Technology Design, and Mechanics and Materials. You also cover design skills through Marine Design Skills.

The course includes modules across yacht and powered vessel design and marine production methods. You study Sustainable Resistance and Propulsion, Powered Vessel Design, Composite Technology, and Sailing Yacht Design, including practical work such as manufacturing composite sample panels. Teaching is delivered by specialist naval architects and production designers, supported by CAD/drawing office instructors and FRP workshop instructors, with access to industry-standard CAD and drawing offices, a specialist composite workshop, and towing and stability tanks.

The course is aimed at people who want to design smaller leisure craft such as sailing boats and powercraft. Graduates have moved into roles such as naval architect or design engineer with companies including Laurent Giles Naval Architects, Sunseeker Yachts, Humphries Yacht Design, Monaco Marine, Viareggio Shipyards, and Incat Crowther Design.
