Yacht Design and Production BEng

Yacht Design and Production BEng is a Bachelor program taught at Southampton Solent University, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Southampton Solent University’s Yacht Design and Production BEng (Hons) focuses on small craft technology and design practice, with Computer-Aided Design (CAD). You study naval architecture topics such as stability, hull resistance and propulsion, and you build design skills through modules including Naval Architecture Design, Marine Design Skills, and Powered Vessel Design.

The course includes applied technology work on marine systems, plus Mechanics and Materials and Composite Technology for manufacturing and material choices. Learning is supported by full access to a composite construction workshop, a yacht drawing office and a modern CAD office, along with a 60m towing tank and a static four-metre stability tank.

The course is aimed at people who want to design smaller leisure craft such as sailing boats and powercraft, and it leads to industry roles in yacht design, naval architecture and equipment design at companies including Laurent Giles Naval Architects and Sunseeker Yachts.
