Philosophy, BA (Hons) is a Bachelor program taught at University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The University of Cambridge’s Philosophy, BA (Hons) explores human thought and questions about knowledge, reality, mind, morality, logic, language, reasoning, politics, art, and value. During the first year, students follow five core compulsory papers: Metaphysics, Ethics and Political Philosophy, Meaning, Formal Methods, and Set Texts. In later years, students take additional compulsory papers and choose from options such as History of Analytic Philosophy, Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art, and Philosophy of Mind.
Teaching includes lectures, with additional classes for some subjects such as first year Logic classes, plus small-group supervisions where students do topical reading, write an essay, and discuss it with a supervisor. The typical weekly pattern is 6 to 12 lectures and 1 to 3 supervisions and/or small classes. Assessments mainly use written examinations, with options in Year 2 and Year 3 to replace an examination with essays or a dissertation. There is access to Casimir Lewy Library and the Cambridge University Library.
