Introduction

MA Criminology is a Masters program taught at University of Manchester, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 year (full-time)) options.

MA Criminology at The University of Manchester develops specialist knowledge of the debates surrounding crime causation, crime control and regulation. Students explore crime, justice and social harm through contemporary criminological theory, research and real-world debate. The course also covers core areas of criminological theory and research, including the relationships between criminology, criminal justice and public policy.

The MA Criminology is delivered as a full-time, in-person programme with a duration of 1 year. Students critically evaluate criminological, socio-legal and criminal justice research, with a focus on data analysis and qualitative research methods. The course includes research-led teaching and places theory into practice from day one. Students study specialist areas such as data science applied to crime and topics linked to social responsibility.

The University of Manchester says the programme opens doors to various careers, with strong links to wider criminal justice professions and industry. The course also supports a transition from master’s to PhD study through a fully-funded 1+3 pathway with the ESRC North West Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP).
