MA Philosophy is a Masters program taught at University of Manchester, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 year) options.
The MA Philosophy at the University of Manchester is a specialist degree that examines a range of areas of analytical philosophy. Students complete extensive research training to identify research needs, undertake work to reach these, and reflect through a core unit taught alongside optional course units. Optional units range from areas such as the philosophy of mind and history of analytic philosophy to topical questions such as “how to do things with words today.”
The programme is delivered full-time and in person over a duration of 1 year. Students participate in research seminars, public lectures, conferences and workshops, and complete dissertation planning, research, and presentation skills support. Students decide whether to write a 10,000-word or 15,000-word dissertation with a specialist supervisor. Students also have access to departmental seminars, postgraduate-led workshops, and major national and international conferences.
The course is designed for students preparing for PhD study in philosophy, and for careers where critical thinking is essential, including roles across policy, teaching, business, journalism, law, civil service, consultancy, publishing, and research.
