Introduction

MSC Computer Aided Drug Discovery for Cancer Therapeutics is a Masters program taught at University of Manchester, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (12 months full-time) options.

The University of Manchester’s MSc Computer-Aided Drug Discovery for Cancer Therapeutics teaches theoretical and practical skills for contemporary drug discovery applied to cancer. Students develop understanding of oncogenic pathways, anticancer therapeutics, genomic approaches, and bioinformatic resources and tools. The course also introduces computational methods from chemical informatics to force-field-based simulation and quantum mechanical methods, plus modelling for pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and AI/machine learning methods.

Teaching is delivered mainly face-to-face with some blended learning. Units are delivered in 6-week blocks, with specific deadlines for summative assessments. Students work through workshops, webinars and tutorials, supervised research, mentorship for writing a research dissertation, group work, and independent study. Assessment includes unit assignments submitted electronically, unit examinations, and a research project dissertation and oral presentation, with work using Jupyter notebooks and in silico design tools.

This course is for students with a background in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, or biochemical or chemical engineering. The programme includes a collaborative research project supported by cancer drug inventors and researchers.
