MSC Geographical Information Science is a Masters program taught at University of Manchester, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 year) options.
The University of Manchester’s MSc Geographical Information Science builds advanced skills in spatial data analysis. Students develop expertise in GIS and geospatial data for digital mapping, geospatial technologies, modelling and data visualisation, with work focused on environmental and geographical challenges. The programme also combines GIS, remote sensing and geocomputation to apply geospatial methods and computational approaches to real-world data and research questions.
Study is full-time and in person over a duration of 1 year. The learning includes hands-on experience with geospatial technologies through fieldwork and technologies including UAVs, RTK-GNSS, environmental sensors and Participatory GIS. Students also access specialist facilities and datasets, and study in a research-intensive environment where work in GIS, remote sensing and spatial analysis informs learning.
Graduates are prepared for data-driven careers across environmental management, planning, consultancy, government, research and other geospatial sectors. The programme is aimed at applicants with relevant academic study, and the university welcomes applications from geographers working in research or policy-related fields.
