Introduction

MSC Medical is a Masters program taught at University of Manchester, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The University of Manchester’s MSc Medical and Molecular Virology focuses on viruses, the diseases they cause, and how to diagnose, control and prevent infections. Students study molecular diagnostics and bioinformatic analysis in modern virology, covering viruses such as novel coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2, influenza, monkeypox and non A-E hepatitis. The course includes practical experience of traditional virology techniques and novel molecular virology methods.

Teaching is offered in person for both full-time and part-time study. The programme includes an MSc and a PGCert option: the PGCert is full-time and delivered in a shorter format (4 months). Applicants can apply for the MSc and may study alongside experienced academic and clinical virologists. Laboratory work involves working with live viruses, and an occupational health clearance (Fitness to Work certificate) is required during the first semester.
