MA Humanitarianism is a Masters program taught at University of Manchester, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 year) options.
The University of Manchester’s MA Humanitarianism and Conflict Response focuses on the practical and theoretical aspects of humanitarian issues. Students learn to understand humanitarian crises and conflict situations, including how prevention to recovery connects to real-world challenges. The course includes research-led teaching from a team of researchers and practitioners working on what the United Nations calls the ‘triple nexus’—humanitarian response, development, and peace.
Students develop skills in communication, research, decision-making, and planning. The course includes guest-lectures from practitioners, simulations, and volunteering, alongside lectures. Students also cultivate critical thinking by interrogating assumptions, weighing evidence, and constructing well-reasoned arguments for both experts and the general public.
