Introduction

MSC By Research Condensed Matter Physics is a Masters program taught at University of Manchester, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The University of Manchester’s MSc by Research Condensed Matter Physics is a postgraduate research programme within the Department of Physics & Astronomy. Students conduct research across electronic, optical, mechanical and magnetic properties of atomically thin, two-dimensional materials, quantum fluids, superconductivity in layered and two-dimensional materials, and mass transport through atomically thin channels in 2D-materials. Research activity includes work supported by centres such as the National Graphene Institute, the Photon Science Institute, the Dalton Nuclear Institute, and the Mesoscience and Nanotechnology Centre.

The programme provides supervision by academic staff and includes independent pastoral back-up. The department describes transferable skills training and some department teaching opportunities. It also states that students should expect examination of the dissertation may take several months, and that MSc degrees are usually awarded several months after the end of the programme. It highlights laboratories and computing facilities, including clean-room microfabrication, measurements and characterisation, plus measurement systems such as ultra-low temperature rotating cryostats.
