Introduction

Applied Marine Geoscience MSc is a Masters program taught at University of Wales, Bangor, UK. Intake: September. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 year) options.

The Applied Marine Geoscience MSc is a full-time, one-year course focused on measuring, quantifying, and understanding physical processes within the geological marine environment. Bangor University describes modules designed to explain processes that form and characterise sedimentary environments from the littoral zone to the deep ocean, and includes survey techniques to map these environments. The course also covers how sedimentary materials react to imposed loads and behave geotechnically.

The programme includes 9 months of taught course and 3 months of research project. Assessment is through coursework and examinations. The course provides theoretical and practical training in laboratory and field work, and it includes team work to acquire larger data sets. Students also learn to plan safe data acquisition and to analyse limitations of model-based interpretation and previous work.

Bangor University states that graduates typically move into roles within onshore or offshore site investigation contract or consultancy companies, government research agencies such as BGS, and higher education and research. The course may also lead to further academic research studies.
