Introduction
Art, Design and Visual Culture is a program taught at University of Westminster, London, UK. Intake: JanuarySeptember. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (1 year) options.
The Art and Visual Culture MA at the University of Westminster is an interdisciplinary, visual theory-based course that examines visual perception and representation in high and popular culture. You study how visual forms produce meanings and how those meanings shape societies and individuals. The course introduces historical and contemporary debates that inform the theories and practices of visual culture and helps you develop a conceptual framework for evaluating the role of visual arts and other visual production.
The MA is modular, with single modules valued at 20 credits and the dissertation valued at 60 credits. Full-time students accumulate 180 credits, taking one core module and two options per semester, and working on the dissertation in the summer. Many modules include class visits to museums, galleries, and archives in London. The course is delivered in full-time and part-time modes with start dates in January and September.
The University of Westminster describes the course as suitable for careers in the art and cultural sectors as well as academia, and it also suits practising artists who want to further their research.
