Introduction

Early Years Education and Care BA (Hons) is a Bachelor program taught at York St. John University, UK. Intake: September. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3 years full time) options.

Early Years Education and Care BA (Hons) at York St John University gives you knowledge and professional skills to work with young children in early years settings. The course is designed to equip you with the Graduate Practitioner Competencies needed for employment within the early years sector, using theoretical and practical modules that support these competencies.

Professional practice is central. You will carry out at least 25 days of assessed placement work in every year of study, with placements that could be with schools, nurseries or childminders, community groups, refuges, early help teams, or children excluded from school. The year structure includes compulsory modules across semesters, including a placement of 30 days in an early years setting.

Through placements and degree-level study, you develop skills to work safely with children and families, understand development and transitions, and build communication, observation, assessment, and research skills. Successful graduates meet the Graduate Practitioner Competencies considered ‘full and relevant’ training by the UK Department for Education standards.
