Creative Writing and English Literature BA (Hons) is a Bachelor program taught at York St. John University, UK. Intake: September. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3 years full time, 6 years part time) options.
York St John University’s Creative Writing and English Literature BA (Hons) is a joint honours degree that develops reading and writing together. The course covers literature modules spanning genres, styles, forms, and voices, including prison narratives, radical poetry, avant-garde writing, speculative fiction, LGBTQIA+ rights literature, experimental writing, and classic texts by writers such as Shakespeare, Dickens and Austen. Students can choose creative writing specialisms including script writing, poetry, and fiction.
The course structure is split into two semesters each academic year. Full-time students study 2 compulsory modules and 1 optional module in each semester, while part-time students split the same modules over two years. It is a joint honours degree, so students must study at least 1 module from each subject every semester. Optional modules run only if they receive enough interest. The course includes external placements, career planning, and mock interviews in one module option, plus opportunities for workshops, readings, writing sessions, and field trips through the York Centre for Writing and the York Literature Festival.
