Introduction

English Language, Linguistics and TESOL BA (Hons) is a Bachelor program taught at York St. John University, UK. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3 year full time, 6 years part time) options.

The English Language, Linguistics and TESOL BA (Hons) at York St John University explores how English is used and structured, how meaning is conveyed, and how people learn English. Students study theories and methods for teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). Teaching and learning connect to language data, with an emphasis on applying theoretical knowledge to explanations for everyday situations and the classroom.

Learning is organised around an academic year split into 2 semesters, with module numbers changing depending on full-time or part-time study. Students use a specialist linguistics lab to analyse linguistic data and apply theories to everyday examples of language use. In Year 2, a compulsory module includes a 10 day work placement, with 5 days completed in a graduate level role and 5 days in a role chosen with a tutor.
