Introduction

English Literature and Film Studies BA (Hons) is a Bachelor program taught at York St. John University, UK. Intake: September. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (3 years full time, 6 years part time) options.

York St John University’s English Literature and Film Studies BA (Hons) explores the interaction between written language, the visual language of cinema, and wider culture and society. Students study literary texts alongside film and related forms such as film and television, documentaries, film adaptations, and historical documents. The course also connects literature and film to the political, social, and cultural contexts that shaped them.

Teaching links Film modules and Literature modules within a joint honours structure. The course runs across an academic year split into two semesters, with students required to study at least one module from each subject every semester.

Modules include film history, theory and analysis, and literature study across forms such as prose, drama, poetry, and autobiographical writing. Film modules cover genres and movements, and students also complete optional modules such as Media Enterprise or Literature at Work, including group portfolio work and a pitch.
