Art History MA
Introduction
Art History MA is a Masters program taught at Academy of Art University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Art History MA at Academy of Art University is designed to provide advanced understanding of Western art history. Students choose a specialization across ancient art, medieval art, Renaissance art, Baroque art, 18th and 19th century art, or pre-war modern art. Core coursework covers art history methods and theory, classical aesthetics and the Renaissance, and topics such as the art and ideology of the 20th century and art in a global society.
The curriculum pairs art history study with three credits of fine art studio classes. Students study traditional fine art production methods, including painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Degree completion is through an M.A. thesis supported and advised by an Art History faculty member, built from independent scholarly research in the chosen specialization. AHS 750 includes a midpoint thesis proposal, research, and editing leading to a Midpoint Review.
