Introduction

Art History - Minor is a program taught at Ashland University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Art History minor studies works of fine art, applied arts, and forms of mass communication in their aesthetic, social, economic, religious, and political contexts. Students explore meanings and purposes of visual arts, their historical development, their role in society, and their relationships to other disciplines. The program is designed to build skills in visual analysis, critical thinking, and written and oral communication.

The minor offers a comprehensive exploration of Western art from ancient times to the modern era. Course topics cover key periods including the Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, 19th century, and 20th century art. The curriculum totals 18 credit hours and is intended to provide a foundational understanding of art history, along with support for critical analysis and appreciation of visual culture.

This minor can complement any major. It especially enriches the study of history, English, art education, and visual art and design.
