Biology B.S.

The Biology B.S. provides thorough instruction in the scientific process and interpretation of scientific data. Students study cellular and molecular biology, organismal biology, evolution, and ecology. The program includes two concentrations: Biomedical Sciences and Marine Sciences. The Biomedical Sciences concentration focuses on living organisms and content such as physiology, virology, immunology, pharmacology, animal development, and chemistry. The Marine Sciences concentration focuses on living organisms and the ecosystems they interact with.

Students receive experimental design instruction and experience with modern instrumentation, with field and laboratory experience. Options include studying in the Integrated Science Center or using the Aquatic Science Center for hands-on experience. Students can participate in the Pre-Med Mentorship program and engage in high-level research through the Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) Program, which involves faculty-led, long-term, large-scale, multidisciplinary project teams. The department also offers research opportunities across areas such as Microbiology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Botany, Geology, Ecology, Entomology, and Paleontology.
