The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Systems Engineering prepares students to design, analyze, and integrate biomedical devices and healthcare technologies using systems engineering principles and multidisciplinary engineering methodologies. Students build technical expertise through mathematics, electronics, computing, and biomedical systems design, with study areas that include biomedical instrumentation, physiological signal analysis, medical imaging systems, embedded systems for healthcare, and biomedical materials and rehabilitation technologies.

The curriculum includes signals and systems, circuits and electronics for biomedical applications, microcontroller-based design, and cyber-physical healthcare systems. Students also study systems engineering methodologies and computational modeling, along with medical device safety standards, regulatory requirements, and compliance principles. Learning includes laboratory experiences and biomedical design projects, plus a senior capstone design focused on real-world biomedical engineering challenges involving safety, performance, cost, and regulatory considerations.

Learning is supported by hands-on laboratory experience in the Fusion Lab, where students can develop and lead their own projects. Co-ops and internships are supported through career services, and the capstone project is required for graduation, with outcomes that may include building, designing and testing a working prototype, or writing a report and giving an oral presentation.
