Bachelor's in Early Childhood/Special Education
Introduction
Early Childhood/Special Education is a Bachelor program taught at Castleton State University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (four years) options.
The BSEd in Early Childhood Special Education prepares you to learn inclusive, specialized teaching practices to support children from birth through age 8. The program prepares you for licensure in early childhood education and special education across birth to age 8, and it also includes credentials related to early intervention and developmental therapy. You also learn to facilitate learning experiences for typically developing children and children with disabilities.
The program uses an apprenticeship approach and is field-based and hands-on, with work directly with infants/toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children throughout four years. You earn Illinois licensure in ECSE and additional credentials including an ESL endorsement, a credential in EI, a Gateways Level 5 Infant/Toddler credential, and a Gateways Level 5 ECE credential. The training includes experiential learning opportunities in classrooms and community organizations.
Graduates leave fully credentialed in early childhood education, early intervention (to work with families of infants and toddlers with disabilities), and special education. The program also emphasizes professional values such as high expectations and tools and training to address issues including inequitable resources and institutional barriers to success.
