Introduction
Ed.S. and Ed.D. Teaching and Learning: Linguistic Diversity & Equity is a program taught at Catholic University of America, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Ed.S. and Ed.D. Teaching and Learning: Linguistic Diversity & Equity program prepares students to apply research, theory, and practice related to linguistic and cultural diversity, language acquisition, and bilingualism in schools, colleges, universities, nonprofits, and government agencies. Students study research, theory, and practice in linguistic and cultural diversity, bilingualism, biliteracy, and language learning. The program can be tailored to students’ professional and academic goals.
Coursework emphasizes critical perspectives and approaches to bilingualism and biliteracy from sociocultural, multimodal, and transnational perspectives. Cross-cutting themes include equity and critical perspectives, Spanish biliteracy, African American English, international approaches to language education, family and community engagement, multimodal communication, and public scholarship. The program takes a broad perspective on linguistic and cultural diversity for both PK-12 contexts and postsecondary contexts in academic and non-academic settings.
The program is offered in a virtual format. Graduates assume or deepen roles in PK-12, higher education, community, and/or policy positions. They often become advocates and consultants for equitable justice. The Ed.S. requires 33 semester hours for completion, while the Ed.D. requires 63 semester hours. A double major requires 69 semester hours for the Ed.D.
