Introduction

Construction is a program taught at Cosumnes River College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Construction Technology program at Cosumnes River College prepares students for work in new construction, remodel, and energy auditing industries. Students cover traditional building practices, with emphasis on advanced framing techniques, energy efficiency, health and safety, and sustainability. The Associate in Science (A.S.) in Construction focuses on basic and applied technical skills and knowledge for employment in the building and construction industry, with standard construction procedures emphasized.

Training is done at the college and at real jobsites. The A.S. degree includes courses such as Construction Estimating, Legal Aspects of Construction, Construction Safety, Introduction to Construction Plans and Specifications (or an alternative plan reading course), Materials of Construction, Computer Estimating for Construction, and required rough and finish carpentry sequences (tools and foundations through interior finish). The program totals 33 units for the A.S.

Graduates are prepared for career options in building and construction trades, including building and construction tradesperson work, general contracting, estimating, construction supervision, material sales, and building inspection, as well as construction apprenticeship programs. Some career options may require more than two years of college study, and classes beyond the associate degree may be required for preparation for transfer or certain career options.
