Introduction

Poverty and Development is a program taught at Covenant College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Poverty and Development Program at Covenant College prepares students to address poverty in the U.S. and around the world. The poverty and development major uses an interdisciplinary approach to examine how the mission of God addresses the whole person across a wide range of institutional and cultural settings. Students study topics through courses such as Theory of Poverty and Human Flourishing, Institutions and Inequality, and Poverty, Trauma, and Practitioner Response.

Students complete a field experience or internship, normally during the summer after the student’s junior year. Department faculty work with partner organizations so students can apply their coursework in either the U.S. or international settings. Students also complete guided senior capstone projects and a complementary program requirement: a minor or a second major in a field of their choice.
