Introduction

Chinese Studies is a program taught at Davidson College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Chinese Studies at Davidson College includes a Chinese Language and Literature major and a Chinese Studies minor. The major focuses on studying Chinese language, literature, and culture, with the aim of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese across speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students also take courses that support a comprehensive understanding of Chinese culture through literature, humanities, and social sciences, plus a course in either literary theory or translation.

The major requires intensive language study across eight semesters and includes a study abroad component. A minimum of two semesters abroad OR one semester plus a summer of study in China or a Chinese-speaking country is required. Students may combine a formal program with summer independent research, and intensive study in the United States (Middlebury, Monterrey) may count toward the requirement. The minor requires six courses numbered above Chinese 102.

Students in the major can receive honors by maintaining a GPA of at least 3.5 in major courses and successfully completing an honors thesis.
