The major includes core work such as Narrative, Shakespeare, and Critical Approaches to Literature, plus options across American literature, British literature, communication studies, contemporary studies, language studies, and creative writing.

The curriculum includes a tailorable final project that blends creative expression, textual analysis, and rhetorical performance to tell stories of societal, cultural, or personal significance. Students also participate in cross-cultural learning experiences, including a study abroad in England.

The degree can be completed as a three-year bachelor's degree option or as a standard four-year bachelor’s degree. The English major prepares students to enter a single subject credential program to become a high school English teacher and also supports other careers in editing, journalism, law, and library science.
