Cannabis Studies, B.A. is a Bachelor program taught at Humboldt State University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Cannabis Studies, B.A. at Humboldt State University focuses on the historical, geographical, cultural, economic, and political contexts of cannabis legalization. The curriculum draws across multiple disciplines and explores the implications of contemporary social problems for limits, possibilities, and promises of cannabis policy reform. Students develop critical and analytic thinking, writing, and communication skills for working with diverse communities, and they engage with science and research.
The program includes a Cannabis Studies Lab. Students choose between two program concentrations: Environmental Stewardship and Policy Stewardship. Environmental Stewardship emphasizes regenerative agriculture and environmental policy reform, while Policy Stewardship emphasizes drug policy reform and harms of prohibition, preparing students to work inside and outside regulatory institutions. The program also connects students to internships in the public sector and private sector industries that do not require touching plants directly.
Per the campus policy included with the program, the Cannabis Studies major does not include touching cannabis or training or curriculum in cultivating, processing, or selling cannabis. Graduates can apply their knowledge to careers tied to community and environmental stewardship, and roles such as compliance officers, research scientists, attorneys, environmental scientists, and accounting specialists.
