Introduction

Marine Biology, B.S. is a Bachelor program taught at Humboldt State University, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Marine Biology, B.S. in the Department of Biological Sciences uses the nearby Pacific Ocean and North Coast as a living lab. Students study marine organisms and ecosystems through field-based learning, collecting living marine organisms from aboard the Coral Sea and analyzing them back at Humboldt’s Marine Lab near campus.

The curriculum includes required courses that span marine biology, such as Zoology, Botany, Phycology, Invertebrate Zoology, Oceanography, Intertidal Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Marine Biology, and Evolution. Students use marine lab facilities and an ocean-going research vessel to conduct research directly with faculty, including work supported by Telonicher Marine Lab seawater tanks.

First-year, first-time students majoring in Marine Biology and Oceanography are automatically enrolled in Rising Tides, a place-based learning community with science and general education courses and activities focused on Humboldt and Trinidad bays. Graduates prepare for careers in marine sciences and related fields.
