Introduction

Physics, B.S. is a Bachelor program taught at Humboldt State University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Physics, B.S. gives students a perspective and problem-solving skills for understanding the world and the universe. Students study physics through hands-on learning and research, with support from professors and dedicated learning experiences. The program includes Physics, Traditional Concentration, B.S., designed for students who expect to enter fields of research or development in government or private industry, and students who want to move into graduate studies and teaching.

Students use equipment in dedicated optics and electronics laboratories. The program also provides opportunities for original research through the Gravitational Research Laboratory, Physical Oceanography, an off-campus observatory, and it may allow students to co-author a scientific paper. The Physics, Astronomy Concentration, B.S. includes three specialized courses for careers in astronomy or astrophysics, including gravitational wave astrophysics.

After degree completion, the program prepares students for roles such as Physicist, Astronomer/Astrophysicist, Secondary science teacher, Scientific Programmer, Physical Oceanographer, Physical Chemist, Geophysicist, Biophysicist, Medical/radiological technologist, Telescope operator, Staff Scientist, and Financial Analyst. For graduate study, graduate study is described as required for many careers, with guidance based on strengths.
