Introduction

Art History is a Bachelor program taught at Kenyon College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Art History at Kenyon College examines how works of art acquire meaning through the relationship between visual representation and culture. The curriculum covers works from the Paleolithic period to contemporary art. Students study themes such as architecture, sculpture, painting, decorative arts, and how visual and material arts express ideas about class, gender, and religion.

Learning is supported by regular exhibition work, visiting speakers, and travel to museums and galleries in Columbus, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Internships in the Visual Resource Center introduce students to 3D printing technologies and professional cataloging skills. Students also participate in the Gund Gallery, where the collection includes contemporary art, there are new exhibitions each semester, and there is a student curatorial program.

Students can take part in study abroad through the semester-long Kenyon in Rome program, with fall study of cultural sites in Rome, Florence, and Naples with art history faculty. In the Meier/Draudt Visual Learning Lab, students become curators through historical inquiry. Student assistants in the Visual Resources Center work on projects such as a 3-D record and map of Kenyon and an archive of contemporary Chinese art.
