Environmental Science (B.S.)
Introduction
Environmental Science (B.S.) is a Bachelor program taught at LaSalle University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4-year undergraduate program) options.
Environmental Science (B.S.) at La Salle University is a four-year undergraduate program that examines human impact on the environment and seeks solutions. Students study topics that include climate change and sustainability, soil/water/air pollution treatment, and management of forests and wildlife. The program also emphasizes critical thinking skills for solving environmental problems, using instruments to collect and interpret environmental data, and communicating science to scientists and non-experts.
Learning is hands-on and supported through teaching laboratories, the Holroyd Greenhouse, Penllyn Field Station at the Wissahickon Creek, and research instrumentation. Students use tools including a scanning electron microscope, X-ray fluorescence spectrometer, X-ray diffractometer, and spectrophotometers for analysis of water and soil. They also use relevant software such as Geographic Information Systems and the R Project for Statistical Computing, with research projects and internships available.
Graduates move into fields such as environmental consulting, environmental conservation, environmental assessment and management, environmental labs, environmental education and outreach, environmental advocacy, and environmental health. The program’s career examples include roles such as Environmental Specialist at EPA and Conservation Specialist at National Park Service.
