Biotechnology
Introduction
Biotechnology is a program taught at Los Angeles Pierce College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
Los Angeles Pierce College’s Biotechnology program uses biological systems to develop products and services that improve quality of life. Students study Biotechnology topics that cover core coursework in Biotech 002 (Biotechnology I), Biotech 003 (Biotechnology II), Chemistry 51 (Fundamentals of Chemistry) or Chemistry 60 (Intro to General Chemistry), Microbiology 20 (General Microbiology) or an equivalent, and Mathematics 227 (Statistics). The program also includes specialization options, including a General Biotechnology Option and a Plant Biotechnology Option.
The program is organized around credit courses and includes options for directed study through Biotech 385 (3 units Directed Study) or Biotech 185 (1 unit Directed Study) plus Biotech 285 (2 units Directed Study). The training program prepares students for entry-level laboratory positions in industry and academic research institutions, with opportunities to move beyond bench roles. Students who want the ASPIRE internship must enroll in Biotech 185, Biotech 285, and Biotech 385, which use a different enrollment process.
