Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide
Introduction
CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT/HOME HEALTH AIDE is a program taught at Los Angeles Southwest College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (10-week program) options.
This 10-week Certified Nursing Assistant / Home Health Aide program at Los Angeles Southwest College prepares students for careers as a nursing assistant or home health aide. You can complete a Certificate of Achievement as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or as a Home Health Aide (CHHA). The training combines clinical experience with academic theory and covers patient rights, interpersonal skills, infection control, emergencies, body mechanics, vital signs, nutrition, observation and charting, and long-term care and rehabilitation.
Learning includes theory and clinical hours. The CNA portion includes 72 hours of theory and 112 hours of clinical work, and the HHA portion includes 18 hours of theory and 36 hours of clinical work.
Theory classes run in the evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and clinical work is scheduled in nursing facilities from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekends.
You must attend all classes to complete required hours, and successful completion makes you eligible to take the state of California certification examination.
The program is for students seeking eligibility for state certification and employment as a Nursing Assistant or Health Home Aide in long-term care facility settings. After program completion, the state application requires fingerprinting and a background check, and applicants with a criminal offense may not be eligible for certification.
