Bachelor's in Biology

Biology is a Bachelor program taught at Meredith College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Meredith College Biology major prepares students for career areas in biological sciences, including medical, environmental, and teacher training. Students complete laboratory and field experiments that strengthen knowledge of biological principles and concepts and develop skills for applying natural science methodologies through investigative work. The major is available as a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Biology and a Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology.

Course requirements differ by degree. The Bachelor of Arts requires 46-47 credit hours, including 32 hours of biology courses, eight hours of physical science courses, and six to seven hours of mathematics courses. The Bachelor of Science requires 59 credit hours, including 36 hours of biology, chemistry, and math courses and 23 credit hours of required electives. Students also have access to research opportunities with faculty and can present research at external venues.

The biology major supports professional development through StrongPoints, which includes a course for exploring career options, learning how to present professionally, and making industry connections. For students interested in teaching, degrees in biology make students eligible to seek North Carolina teacher licensure for middle grades science or comprehensive science for secondary education. Graduates pursue roles across medical research, biotechnology, healthcare, forensic science, medical illustration, and teaching.
