The Fashion Merchandising & Design MAJOR at Meredith College prepares students for work in retail, wholesale, and design. The program builds foundations in theories and practices used in the fashion industry and supports applied learning through internships, study abroad, and other opportunities. It also includes an interdisciplinary approach drawing on art, psychology, sociology, business, history, and science.
Students focus through two concentrations: Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Design. Fashion Merchandising centers on forecasting product popularity and introducing products to the right market at the proper time using advertising, attractive displays, and more. Fashion Design emphasizes applying design, aesthetics, and clothing construction to clothing and accessories, supported by experiential learning through classroom work, industry, travel programs, and internships.
