Spanish
Introduction
Spanish is a Bachelor program taught at Meredith College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
The Spanish major at Meredith College helps students develop language and cultural skills through the study of language, literature, and cultures. Students build cross-cultural knowledge, strengthen their understanding of their own language, and sharpen critical thinking skills. Graduates develop the ability to communicate effectively in writing and speaking in formal and informal situations, demonstrate intercultural competence, use specialized terminology, and support oral and written assignments with research sources.
Students can major in Spanish with a concentration in cultural literacy or professional Spanish, and both options require 35–38 hours. Each concentration includes 21–24 hours of core courses, eight hours of concentration courses, and six hours of elective courses. Spanish majors complete community-based learning with partner agencies, and may also intern with local organizations. Students pursuing licensure complete a field placement as a student teacher.
The program includes options beyond the major. Students can pursue a Spanish minor or teacher licensure, and Business Spanish (SPA 301) enables students to apply for Business Spanish certification. Students also participate in Spanish student organizations such as La Tertulia and the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi.
