Introduction

Medical Assisting is a program taught at Metropolitan Community College (NE), USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Medical Assisting program at Metropolitan Community College (NE) prepares students for a healthcare career field. Students learn how medical assistants support the healthcare team in both front-office and clinical duties, including obtaining medical histories, taking patient vitals, giving injections, venipuncture, assisting with minor surgeries, and performing ECGs, along with other procedures.

The program offers an Associate in Applied Science and a Certificate of Achievement. The Associate in Applied Science is Professional Health Studies for Medical Assisting (PHSMA), which can be earned by completing the Medical Assisting certificate and then fulfilling additional general education requirements of 4.5 credit hours, with the note that not all degree courses may transfer.

Accreditation is provided for the Medical Assisting Certificate Program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB). Application information includes the Health Sciences Reasoning Test - Associate Degree Level (HSRT-AD) as part of the associate degree level process.
